The Cure For Nakedness!
These are the first 3 designs I put up for sale. Fallen Logo was the original logo I developed for the company based on a photo of myself.
Concrete Jungle was adapted for a t-shirt from a poster I made in college to advertise my production company. The idea was simply the contrast between nature and man-made structures to create a compelling image.
On Perfect Wings was also later adapted as a poster of the same name. The idea behind the image and the title of the shirt was inspired by the song "Heaven Knows" by Rise Against, which was also a key inspiration for my logo and much of company. The first line of the song "the day I learn to fly I'm never coming down, on perfect wings I'll rise through the layers of the clouds."
This song really spoke to me, especially throughout my college years. What a miserable time trying to fit in and find your place, when nothing feels right and all you want is for this nightmare to end so you can get on with your life.
Anyway, let me know what you think of my shirts, and even better yet, if you like them check out the rest on www.savingthescene.com!
Whats in a name?
The name Artin Design was born from an argument with a classmate in my thesis class. We were discussing graphic design and the art department and I expressed that I have always considered myself an "artist" and consider my design work my art. He believed that designers and artists were two completely different fields and stated that if I wanted to be an artist I was in the wrong field.
And thus was born the name "Art In Design" which became Artin Design to avoid confusion with a company that already used "Art In Design."
What is Artin Design
To kick off the new blog I guess I'll give a brief history of the company. Artin Design started about 4 years ago as a production company. The local Elks Lodge was looking for a new way to raise money for their organization, and I was looking for something new to do on the weekends. I offered to organize local concerts in their banquet room and donate the profits to the Elks.
After about a year of donating our profits and building up a small following in the area, an acquaintance of mine asked if he would help bring in some bigger acts. Excited at the opportunity to book some of my favorite bands, I struck up a partnership to bring national tours to our local establishment. Booking at the lodge quickly grew from a weekend hobby to a lucrative side business.
With the help of several business partners we brought in many national tours for the next 2 years. Unfortunately as the shows got bigger, the lodge's demands got higher and the operation lost its appeal. As a graphic design major I had always played with the idea of starting a t-shirt company, but didn't know where to start. After a long talk with my girlfriend about being unhappy with our day jobs and needing to find a creative outlet we decided to start up separate clothing companies, Artin Design and Love Is More.
Artin Design officially launched in October of 2009. Struggling to survive in this economy, it has been a difficult start, but we're not giving up yet.
Check out the huge sale we're having at www.savingthescene.com. T-shirts as low as $5!
